Our weekly lawn cutting service starts May 1st and ends October 31st. We will cut your grass 18 – 25 times depending on weather. The service includes trimming and clean up using leaf blowers.
--
We cut the grass at 2.5 to 3 inches, we always leave the grass clippings on the lawn because they add nitrogen to your soil after they decompose. Although we leave the clippings, we never leave a mess; any major clumps of clippings will be broken apart and dispersed around the lawn using leaf blowers.
--
We may cut the grass every two weeks during the months of July, August. July and August are too hot and dry for regular grass growth some years, it’s best to stay off the lawn if there is no need to cut it.
A typical clean up consists of the following: Removal of bulk leaves and debris from lawn and other maintained areas around the property. Removal of any sticks and garbage left over from summer or winter. Leaves and debris are either relocated to another part of the property or hauled away for disposal.
What other "spring or fall" services might be needed or desirable?
Aeration
Over seeding
De-thatching / Power raking
Fertilizing
Tree Trimming or Cutting
Top Dressing
CORE AERATION
Core aeration removes small cores of soil from your lawn. It reduces soil compaction, improves grass rooting, increases thatch breakdown, improves soil water uptake, reduces water runoff and puddling, and increases fertilizer uptake. To maximize aeration, the soil should be damp so that the aerator tines penetrate deeply.
--
DETHATCHING & POWER RAKING
Dethatching, often called power raking, mechanically removes a great deal of the dead grass and thatch in your lawn. Thatch acts as a barrier preventing the penetration of water, air and fertilizer. Overabundant thatch is a breeding ground and home for damaging insects like Chinch bug. The thatch layer in your lawn should be less than 1 cm.
SOD REMOVAL & REPLACEMENT
In some situations it’s simply better to remove the sod rather than try to repair it. A very neglected lawn in bad shape with little grass, or lawns with large volumes of crabgrass are better served with new sod rather than spending a number of years on remedial actions. The old grass is replaced with Kentucky bluegrass.
--
FERTILIZER
One of the single most important things you can do for your lawn is to provide it with the plant essential nutrients it needs to grow healthy and stay healthy, all season long. Balanced fertility throughout the year will keep your lawn looking green, thick, and healthy. We use a combination of slow and quick release fertilizer technologies that are formulated for each application, delivering essential nutrients approximately every 4 to 6 weeks, depending on the time of year.
--
POWER SWEEPING
Each year during the winter the city comes by and deposits salt and sand on the roads that inevitably gets into the first bit of your lawn. We power sweep along the driveway and the first 5-10 feet along the road. This not only removes the sand and salt but also removes many crabgrass and weed seeds.
